Foreign investment in Spain’s real estate increased in 2013 for the fourth year running to 6.45€ billion, the highest level registered in the last nine years and 16 per cent more than in 2012.
British, French, Chinese, Russian and Belgian investors are having a strong involvement in investing across Spanish property assets. These strong results are even higher than the level just before the economic downturn at the start of 2008.
It is important to note, that as unemployment is still high making domestic demand weak with difficulties of getting access to credit, overseas investors are taking advantage of their stronger economies and bringing in the investment capital to scope up opportunities in the Spanish RE market now that there are strong signs of recovery.
In Addition, even though residential real estate prices fell by 7.8 per cent in 2013, this was still less than the registered in 2011 and 2012 when prices decreased by 11.2 per cent and 12.8 per cent respectively (National Statistic Institute). These figures indicate how Spain’s market conditions are gaining a strong outlook.
